    WHAT IS PUB FOOD?

Dating back to the 11th century, pub food got its start as the Roman Empire expanded. With that said, as armies, merchants and colonists traveled, "pubs" were available every 20 miles or so known as Taverns. There, travelers could receive a hearty meal, nights rest and continue on their journeys. To learn more about the history of pubs and taverns, click here!

To illustrate further, pub food consists of traditional and hearty foods like; stewed meats and potatoes, fish and chips, shepards pie, meatloaf, burgers, bangers and mash, the list goes on!

WHAT DOES THIS SIMPLE IRISH PUB BURGER TASTE LIKE?

I’m a sucker for seasoning blends, in like manner, I was sent a sample box of goodies from Live Zesti and haven't looked back! With that said, they connected with me at the right time and sauce wise, their Cask Strength Spicy Whiskey is one my favorites! After taste testing the Spicy Whiskey Sauce, it immediately put me in the mood for pub food and the rest was history!

Undoubtedly, I created this simple Irish Pub Burger with just a handful of ingredients, added their BBQ Sauce and things quickly went into flavor overload. To explain, this burger falls under the hearty and comforting category ringing true to traditional pub food.

This simple Irish Pub Burger is made with a beef and pork, filled with spices and bbq sauce. Next, the toppings pile high with caramelized onions, bacon, cruny onions and that zesty whisky bbq sauce. If you love a hearty burger, without doubt you'll love this recipe!

INGREDIENTS TO GRAB TO MAKE THE SIMPLE IRISH PUB BURGER

This recipe consists of mostly household pantry items. Here's what you'll need:

    • Ground Beef- Lean works best. Be sure to grab a pack that has a little fat content, at least 15% or higher.
    • Ground Pork- This provides the burger with extra texture and flavor. If you are not a pork eater, omit this part and double up on the ground beef.
    • Season All- Use your favorite seasoning blends that pair well with BBQ flavors. Here's the seasoning blend I used.
    Simple Irish Pub Burger Ingredients
    • Cheddar Cheese- Shredded or pre sliced works.
    • Salt & Pepper- Used to season the meat.
    • Butter- Helps to caramelize the outside of the burger and onions!
    • Water-Will help sweat the onions during caramelization.
    • Large Red Onion- I used a red onion but use what you have on hand!
    • Crunchy Onions-These will be on top of the burger. I use these.
    • Thick Cut Bacon-Thick cut bacon works best. I used a cherry, applewood flavor and it was perfect!
    • Arugula- Provides a nutty texture and flavor that pairs well with the listed ingredients. Spinach or lettuce will work as well!
    • Bread and Butter Pickles (sweet pickles)- These pickles pair perfectly with the flavors in the burger, do not omit this ingredient. (and trust me, I love dill pickles)

HOW TO MAKE SIMPLE IRISH PUB BURGER WITH RECIPE VIDEO

    First, prep the burger patties!

Start by prepping the burger patties by placing ground beef and pork in a large bowl. Season with salt, pepper, Angelic Devil Seasoning (or favorite season all) and Cask Strength Spicy Whisky BBQ Sauce. Then, massage and combine beef mixture until thoroughly combined being careful not to over mix. Separate the meat mixture into four equal portions and roll each portion into a ball.

Next, place the patties on a lined baking sheet and refrigerate for at least thirty minutes. While burgers are marinating, prep additional toppings by preparing bacon according to package instructions and setting aside until further use.

    Then, prepare the caramelized onions

First, thinly slice onion and set aside. Then, in a medium sized skillet on medium/high heat, add one teaspoon of butter. Next, saute onions until soft, translucent and browned.

It's important to note, during the cooking process add water (3 tablespoon at a time) to help with the cooking process as the onions begin to stick to the pan. Lastly, once onions are caramelized, set aside until further use.

    Let's cook the burgers!

Begin by heating a cast iron skillet or large frying pan, place remaining butter on medium to high heat. Then remove marinated burgers from the fridge. Once the pan reaches heat level, add burger balls to the pan and begin searing.

At this time, use a spatula to flatten burger balls until round and in the shape of a burger patty. Sear patties for 5-7 minutes (being careful not to disturb). Then flip patties only once and when burger patties have reached desired cooking temperature, place sliced cheddar cheese on top and remove from heat.

Lastly, set cooked burger patties on a cooling rack or lined plate with paper towels.
